Save our Nursery Schools

The government is planning to change the way it funds nursery education. These changes mean that nursery schools will no longer receive enough funding to be able to operate.

As a result of our previous campaign we were given interim supplementary funding from March 2017 – March 2020 from the government.  Beyond March 2020 we still have no guarantee of any further funding.

If this happens Maintained Nursery Schools across the country will close.

In Cambridgeshire there are six maintained nursery schools;

Brunswick Nursery School

Colleges Nursery School

The Fields

Histon Early Years Centre

Homerton Early Years Centre

Huntingdon Nursery School

On Tuesday 4 December we are holding a public meeting to discuss our Save Nursery Schools campaign.  Please join us at this meeting:

The Fields, Galfrid Road, Cambridge, CB5 8ND @ 7.00pm

With everyone’s support we know that we can make an impact

Ofsted Success!

The inspection was a new type of short inspection which lasted for one day. The purpose of short inspections is to ensure that the school has maintained its previous judgment.

However, we have demonstrated such strong practice and marked improvement that we have moved forward significantly and the inspector felt that we are on the brink of an outstanding judgment. The report therefore recommends that we are inspected again within eighteen months and this will be a two day section 5 inspection. This recommendation only takes place if the inspector thinks the school is very close to outstanding. This is the best outcome that we could have received and is a great endorsement of all the hard work of the staff. Click here to see the report.

Colleges Nursery School was built in 1972 with funds donated by the colleges of Cambridge University and the fund raising efforts of a community based committee. On completion of the building was adopted by the local authority. Further building projects have followed and Colleges now shares its site with North Cambridge Children’s Centre.

All 3-4 year olds are entitled to 15 hours per week of government funded education/childcare during term time. From September 2017 children of working parents may be eligible for an additional 15 hours a week (30 hours free entitlement). To find out if you are eligible please visit the Cambridgeshire County Council website.

We are open 8.00am – 4.00pm. Download your application form from the Applying For a Place section on the website or ring the school office.

Colleges offers free places for 80 children aged between three and four years old with the option of purchasing extra care.

The Daisy Room offers 24 places for two and three year olds. You can apply for a place with this form.

The Future

For over 100 years Brunswick Nursery School and Colleges Nursery School have provided exceptional Early Years Education and we are still passionate about offering outstanding provision for young children.

We look forward with confidence to the future. We are working closely with our colleagues in other nursery schools both in Cambridgeshire and nationally in the knowledge that these partnerships strengthen us.
